Q&A: Meet Softball player Vianey Cabrera

Freshman catcher Vianey Cabrera took some time to talk softball and a little bit about herself. Here’s what she had to say in Meet Vianey Cabrera Q&A:

Q. What is your favorite class subject?

A: Algebra

Q. Favorite restaurant?

A: Las Mañanitas Mexican restaurant 

Vianey Cabrera is a Freshman at Bridgeland High School and she currently plays on the JV softball team.

Q. Favorite movie?

A: A Dogs Journey 

Q. How old were you when you started playing softball?

A: 9 years old

Q. Was there anyone special in your life that helped you become a great player?

A: My private coach Cassidy Bowen that has coached me since I started softball.

Q. How do you get ready for a game?

A: Before every game I like to jog and warm up with my team then do some regular hitting drills then after I go warm up my pitchers for the game.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not involved with softball?

A: Sometimes during the week I go to Jui-jitsu but when i’m not there I work on softball at home and when i have a little free time i will sometimes go hang out with my friends.

Q. Do you have any routines or superstitions before or in a game?

A: One superstition i have in a game is i start off batting in the game with my blue ghost bat and when i feel like it’s an off day I will sometimes switch bats to my Rawlings bat because i believe it’s my “lucky bat”

Q. What was your most memorable moment as a player on the softball field?

A: When i had a good hard tag at home plate catching where the girl ran into me and threw me on the ground but when i got back up i had the ball and she was out.

Q. How has your adjustment been from travel to High School softball?

A: It’s been really fun getting to play with new people and friends that i normally play against on the field.

Q. Was there frustration you experienced as a freshman as a softball player?

A: Yes, at the beginning of off-season i was not able to do anything because of an injury i had.

Q. What did you work on between summer and freshman softball?

A: I worked with my tournament team playing softball.

Q. How do you handle the expectations of your coach and following the successful traditions of your family?

A: I work harder and practice my skills so i can make everyone proud and live up to their expectations.

Q. How excited are you about this year’s softball season?

A: Very excited, i’m excited to be able to play new people and make new friendships.

Q. What are your goals beyond softball?

A: I want to go to college at the United States Coast Guard Academy to study mechanical engineering and be a pilot.

Q. What grabbed your attentions about softball?

A: My parents showing me a new craft and my coaches helping me love the game.

Q. What are your individual and team goals this season?

A: My individual goal is the hit an out of the park home run.

Q. If a little girl approaches you wanting to play softball, what advice do you give her

A: No matter how hard softball gets keep going because it will all lay off in the end, and you will love it more than ever.

Q. What is the best softball or baseball game you have ever seen?

A: I attended the 2019 World Series game 7

A: Jennie Finch

Q. Who’s your favorite softball or baseball player?

A: My favorite baseball player is Jose Altuve.
